Infection Control Training for Nurses

A responsive, scenario driven infection control program that turns mandatory PPE training into confident, real world clinical practice.

The Challenge

Infection control remains a critical priority across healthcare environments, where correct use of personal protective equipment is essential to preventing transmission and maintaining patient safety.

This mandatory training module was developed to strengthen nurses’ understanding of proper donning and doffing procedures while reinforcing the broader importance of infection prevention protocols. As standard compliance training, the challenge was to move beyond passive content delivery and ensure nurses could confidently apply correct procedures in high risk clinical settings.

The solution needed to be delivered fully online, hosted on an LMS, and designed to function seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices to support shift based professionals.

Our Solution

eLearning Solutions designed a one hour, fully online interactive module focused on real world application rather than passive compliance content.

Built to be mobile responsive and reflowable across desktop, tablet, and phone, the course enabled nurses to complete their mandatory training flexibly without compromising engagement or clarity.

The learning experience incorporated:

  • Interactive flip cards and hotspots to explore PPE components in detail
  • High quality images and video demonstrations of correct donning and doffing sequences
  • Controlled branching simulations allowing nurses to make procedural decisions in a safe environment
  • Immediate feedback to reinforce correct infection control protocols


To deepen understanding and provide meaningful context, historical case examples such as Typhoid Mary were integrated into the narrative. This reinforced the real world consequences of infection transmission and highlighted the critical role PPE plays in protecting both staff and patients.

By combining visual demonstration, interactive participation, and scenario based learning, the module moved beyond checklist compliance to practical skill reinforcement.

The Outcome

The result is a scalable, LMS hosted infection control solution designed to support consistent standards across nursing teams.

Nurses were able to:

  • Practise correct PPE sequencing in a safe, simulated environment
  • Reinforce best practice behaviours through guided decision making
  • Build confidence in applying infection control measures in clinical settings
